Abstract
Radar Signatures even of big targets like ships can be modelled by electromagnetic ray tracing methods. Experimental validation, however, very often shows considerable discrepancies between simulation and experiment. This is mainly due to influences of EM wave propagation in the maritime boundary layer, namely multipath and duct phenomena, and geometrical distortions like pitch and roll of the ship. A simulation tool was developed to cope with these phenomena and allows a realistic simulation of the ship signature.
