Abstract
We propose a novel geometric approach for mitigating the effects of non-line-of-sight (NLOS) in wireless location estimation. In contrast to existing schemes that either assume a line-of-sight (LOS) path to each involved base-transceiver-station (BTS) or require involvement of many BTSs, we do not need to have a LOS path to each one of the involved BTSs, and require only 3 BTSs. In doing so, we utilize the time-of-arrival (TOA) as well as the angle-of-arrival (AOA) to each one of the involved BTSs for reconstructing the LOS path to that BTS using NLOS measurements. We will analytically show that using our reconstructed LOS would result in a much more accurate location estimation as compared to using NLOS measurements. We will also demonstrate that our proposed method is significantly more accurate than existing schemes.
