Abstract
A novel 3-Level converter configuration for switched reluctance motor is proposed. Using the 3-Level converter, switched reluctance drive has a fast magnetisation and fast demagnetisation to improve dynamic performance and efficiency. Also the proposed converter is suitable for high speed drive application, due to the fast magnetisation and the fast phase current commutation (fast demagnetisation) capability. Therefore, generation of negative torque problem and consequently, large generated torque ripples in SRM drive are resolved. SRM drive simulation results using the proposed converter are presented and the results are compared with the asymmetric converter which is usually used in SRM drives.
