  • Abstract
    This paper presents an algorithm to estimate position and velocity of mobile station in a smart antenna system based on an electric field strength and the corresponding propagation times. This algorithm is called position and velocity estimation (PVE) algorithm. The PVE algorithm is then combined with the least mean square (LMS) algorithm to perform beamforming and position-velocity estimation. The beamforming with position-velocity estimator (BFPVE) algorithm is designed using the principle of maximum likelihood estimation, based on a two-element antenna array. The proposed algorithm is tested in MATLAB for fading channel condition.
