Abstract
Communication networks that evolve along a Next Generation Network (NGN) concept must provide users with the ability to communicate and access services regardless of changes in location and technical environment. These strict requirements impose research challenges on offering Quality of Service (QoS) support for multimedia services. This paper describes simulation and performance evaluation of a mobility-aware session reconfiguration at the application level that maintains and adapts QoS for these services. The approach relies on handling generic mobility events that affect QoS and executing basic operations, called reconfiguration primitives, in response. Proposed functional model is depicted in the scope of ITU-T NGN architecture, along with the specified signaling procedures. Model simulation and its performance evaluation, which considers scalability issues against number of session participants, are presented in more detail.
