Abstract
In this paper a new algorithm based on serviced type and user mobility for radio access technology selection in heterogeneous wireless networks is proposed. Numerical method based on two-dimensional Markov chain is used to evaluate performances of the proposed algorithm. Furthermore, the performances of the proposed algorithm are compared in regard to pure mobility based and “if WLAN coverage” RAT selection algorithms. A performance analysis shows that RAT selection algorithm based on multiple criteria, like user mobility and service type, shows better overall performances compared to single criteria based RAT selection algorithms, like pure mobility and “if WLAN coverage” algorithms.
