Abstract
Significant savings on transit router cost can be achieved by offloading up to 85% of the IP traffic to an OPST (Optical Packet Switch and Transport) sub-wavelength network. Three network solutions for supporting a next-generation Virtual Personal Computer service are modelled. Our analysis identified an OPST solution that is 20% of the cost of the current network architecture approach, revealing a new and counterintuitive network design.
