Abstract
This book was first published in 1942. It was republished by Krieger in 1974, and Amazon has Ane Books listed as the current publisher (2009). The author starts with first principle experiments, like what happens to an amount of charge in an electric field, and derives equations. This book is only about 250 pages, but it takes the reader from electrostatics through magnetic fields from currents, radiation, waveguides, and, finally, wave propagation in the ionosphere. Along the way, the reader is given intuitive explanations of gradients, divergence, and curl. The author´s examples of mechanical analogs for understanding gradients, curl, and divergence give students a foundation that goes beyond memorization and on to understanding. This book should be consider on a top ten list for students of microwave theory and techniques.
