Abstract
Summary form only given. The next generation flat panel displays are driven to meet the need of future mobile lifestyle, and to answer the higher order call for “Greener” panel, i.e. displays that are energy efficient, and environmentally friendly. Accordingly, the development work in ITRI encompasses energy saving applications and mobile devices. For energy saving applications, roll-to-roll coatable, bistable cholesteric liquid crystal display (Ch-LCD) is chosen as the platform deliverable, oriented to simultaneously promote development of corresponding material, equipment, panel, and system technologies, For mobile devices, we are inspired to deliver a rollable AMOLED, where the development activities are mainly on the integration of flexible substrate, backplane, emissive layer, passivation and encapsulation technologies, Meanwhile, effort to explore new opportunities continues, and international collaboration is leveraged to accelerate R&D progress.
