Abstract
Designed for the specific function of a full-convert power converter for Multi-Megawatt (MW) variable speed wind turbines, this paper describes a power converter system, design-optimised for mass produced wind turbines containing direct drive permanent magnet generators (PMG), that provide fully grid compliant power generation up to 6 MW ratings. It describes the requirements, including those imposed by the generator and grid connection characteristics, innovations to meet these requirements and test configurations to validate performance.
