Abstract
Active du/dt filtering method can reduce the size of filter component physical size, and achieve superior filtering results. This enables very low overvoltage with long motor cables. The losses and power dissipation associated with the method is addressed. A comparison with passive filters is introduced, and silicon carbide components evaluated. The use of silicon carbide free-wheeling diodes results in significant loss reduction at least in 5.5 kW-22 kW motor power levels. The power dissipation of the inverter is measured with a temperature rise/thermal resistance method, and the results compared with chamber calorimeter results.
