Abstract :
The paper presents a novel method to sketch in 3D for automotive styling based on a computer-aided styling system - AutoSketch, which has been prototyped by using ThinkDesign API. Differing from the traditional CAS/CAD systems, AutoSketch uses a digital pen to draw/sketch in a natural way on digital tablet/screen to create 3D surface models. The method demonstrates how spatial curves/surfaces have been created. Planar points are converted into spatial points, planar strokes into spatial curves on working plane or surfaces through the projection and intersection, and spatial curves into surfaces in hand sketching ways.
