Abstract :
In recent years, power saving in broadband access network has become an important issue. Ethernet over passive optical network (EPON), a new optical access technology which is the optimized combination of Ethernet technology and passive optical network (PON) technology, has become one of the best choices of PON technologies. In this paper, we propose a energy saving mechanism for EPON. The mechanism bases on double-way polling dynamic bandwidth assignment (Double-way Polling DBA) algorithm and optical network units (ONU) sleep mode.
