Abstract :
Some complications induced by transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) threaten the lives of newborns, medical records of 1354 cases of TTN were analyzed in order to summary the clinical characteristics of TTN in different gestational age(GA). The cases were divided into 4 groups according to GA, including small GA preterm infants, near-term infants, term and postterm infants. Clinical characteristics of different groups were analyzed and compared, including respiratory rate of admission, chest radiograph changes, the incidence of complications and respiratory support, duration of hospitalization and outcome. The study showed that there was significant difference between term and preterm infants in the chest X-ray changes (P<;0.05), the small gestational age in preterm infants had typical chest X-ray changes. Also, pneumonia as a complications was significantly increased in the small GA preterm infants (P<;0.01). The duration of continuous positive airway pressure ventilation (CPAP) was also longer in small GA preterm infants than the other groups (P <;0.05), and the median duration of hospitalization was significant difference in different GA, which suggested that the smaller the GA, the longer the duration of hospitalization. So we should pay more attention to respiratory support for TTN in preterm infants.
