  • Abstract
Despite popular perceptions, the market place does not magically create new technology whenever it is needed. Mobile technology, telecommunications and ICT appear to achieve real growth. Yet the picture for alternative and renewable energy technologies is more dismal. A question that comes to mind is “Where will new renewable energy technology come from?” This paper investigates new technologies and standards that influence renewable energy applications. For the renewable energy cluster, a review of implementation projects shows that the application of renewable energy in grid tied systems needs to adhere to new standards. This paper discusses how the new IEEE 929-200 standard has developed to ensure proper disconnection and restoration of utility interconnected inverters whenever there is a power failure.
