  • Abstract
Application-level energy efficiency mechanisms are considered the next important step in the evolution of highly power-efficient mobile systems. The final user is also an important element to be introduced within the energy efficiency and management chain. However the normal user lacks the basic understanding of the low-level power management mechanisms, even though he is the most able to choose how to consume the remaining energy within the battery. The main goal of our work is to find specific models for application level estimation of energy consumption in order to build energy aware mobile applications and further to propagate this information to the user level in an appropriate way. This paper gathers altogether the important elements and aspects that are essential to implement or evaluate application-level energy efficiency techniques in mobile computing devices.
