Abstract
Recent research efforts consider the design of distributed mobility management approaches, with the aim of eliminating issues faced in centralized and hierarchical schemes. In this paper, we compare two main approaches for distributing mobility management schemes, at network´s edges or at end-hosts. Our simulations show advantages and drawbacks of the different approaches, compared to the use of the well known Mobile IP protocol, with or without route optimization option. Our results confirm the advantages of evolving from classic “centralized” mobility management toward distributed and dynamic approaches. Moreover, they show the benefits of dynamically mixing network-based with end-to-end mobility management.
