Abstract :
This paper presents a technology for transmitting power over an unshielded single twisted pair Ethernet data cable for automotive use cases. The BroadR-Reach™ [1] technology, describing a possible physical layer for Ethernet, is used. Because only one twisted pair cable is used, the power transmission is not compliant to the standard IEEE 802.3at [2]. The technology is described on an evaluation system, showing the practicability and limits.
