  • Abstract
This paper presents a bilateral brain symmetry index (BBSI) for analyzing the EEG signal. It quantifies the asymmetry between bipolar hemispheres EEG signal which is regarded as an important feature in stroke patients. Comparing with the existing BSI, the proposed index shows higher uniformity in the same group and helps doctors distinguish the stroke patients from the healthy men easily. Furthermore, it is found that the BBSI increases along with the prognosis becoming more severe in general. Then the GCS and NIHSS are combined with the BBSI to predict the prognosis. The study results suggest that BBSI is a valid index for analysis of EEG signal.
