  • Abstract
    Power transmission line detection is of great importance in the development of a millimeter-wave(MMW) helicopter collision warning radar system. This paper presents high-voltage power transmission line detection scheme, using knowledge of radar backscatter characteristics of high-voltage power line and tower. Detection criteria based on clutter backscattering coefficients, power line size, and aspect angle, as well as the number of independent samples are obtained. The performance of the scheme for detecting power lines in radar data is demonstrated using a series of real scene data obtained by a MMW rader at 35 GHz. It has been demonstrated that there is a good propect that these processes will help develop the algorithm for automatic obstacle detection and warning.
