  • Abstract
With the rapid global growth of the internet and mobile internet, the next decade is envisaged to emerge as the decade of the "networked society" and "Smart City". Robust, reliable and dependable network connectivity is a crucial element to support this vision. This paper examines the emerging self-* technologies such as self-organisation and self-optimisation technologies (commonly known as SON) and how they will play an increasingly expanding role in vertical industries such as healthcare, transportation and utilities as well as in telecommunications.
