Abstract :
Abstract In this paper we demonstrate the first use of a cavity with a slot array forming one of its walls and equipped with a single phase conjugation transponder. This is used as a novel means for producing a self-tracking array of significantly reduced complexity as compared to present state of the art self tracking systems. These rely on multiple phase conjugating transponders in order to operate. The spatial focussing property of the slotted cavity using CW excitation is investigated and automatic beam steering is demonstrated. The underlying physical principles governing the operation of the system as well as experimental results at 2.4GHz are provided. The approach developed here opens the possibility for simplified self tracking arrays development, especially at mm and sub mm-wavelengths. In addition the method suggests an effective means for constrained spatially confined energy delivery to a prescribed location, might be required for example for radio therapy treatment.
