Abstract :
This paper aims to present low-cost and uncomplicated data acquisition system for main cutting force measurement in turning operation. The tool holder was designed for clamping HSS cutting tool and a miniature load cell was inserted in the tool holder. The developed data acquisition system consists of hardware components and software component. Hardware components include tool holder, amplifier, A/D unit and DAQ 6008 interface card. For software component, LabVIEW platform was used to develop a data acquisition program for storing the cutting force data. The calibration curve presented high linearity with 0.9979 of weight and sensor output voltage. The performance testing reveals that the maximum and average of uncertainty of developed system equals ± 2.9413 N and ± 0.5992 N, respectively. The potent advantages of the proposed cutting force system are a low-cost sensor and a few additional hardware components requirements. The system also can apply for tool ware and surface roughness prediction.
