Abstract :
Saft has invested years of research and development into developing cutting-edge battery systems that provide high energy and power densities, but are also tolerant to abuse. The use of Li-ion batteries for demanding applications like manned and unmanned underwater vehicles and swimmer vehicles requires expertise in chemistry, cell development, system design and development, and integration. This paper will discuss the trades between metal oxide and phosphate based chemistries as related to implementation into these applications. As a manufacturer of both metal oxide and phosphate chemistries, Saft has a unique perspective into this trade discussion.
