Abstract :
In view of the inefficiency of ship grounding alert, a novel approach for ship grounding prediction was described in this paper, in which the vector data of the hazardous zones was extracted from ENC(electronic navigational charts) database, an geometry model for the ship and hazard area was established and the grounding risk index (GRI) based on fuzzy theory calculated. The experimental results demonstrated that GRI could accurately reflect the grounding danger along one ship´s instantaneous track and showed that it was feasible and effective.
