Abstract
Due to variability of electricity price, grid demand and wind speed as well as heterogeneity of wind turbines, operators of a wind farm encounter challenges of determining operational status of wind turbines (on/off) to achieve power generation objectives but minimize the total cost. A heuristic model that develops scheduling strategies of wind turbines for operators in a wind farm is discussed in this paper. A modified particle swarm optimization algorithm with small world network structure is introduced to solve the heuristic model. The computed scheduling strategies suggest the operational status of wind turbines over the pre-determined scheduling horizon that minimizes the total cost of a wind farm.
