Abstract :
With the ever increasing demand of multicasting on the Internet, the interest in deploying multicast for distribution of these contents have increased. To evaluate the performance of multicast protocols many efforts have been put into defining multicast metrics. This paper defines the performance metric for evaluation of multicast protocols DVMRP, MOSPF, PIM-SM, PIM-DM and CBT and also outlines the simulation parameters and different methods to evaluate the performance of protocol. Expected performance of each protocol is defined according to the different design features of routing protocols.
