Abstract
This paper presents a new routing protocol named OEERP (Optimized Energy Efficient Routing Protocol), that improves the life time of Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). It is a cluster based protocol in which the node that acts as cluster-head is changed in every time slot. This approach improves the lifetime of the WSN for two reasons mainly. The first reason is the uniform battery drain of the nodes and the second reason is that no node depends on beacon based transmissions for long time to reach the access point. Information sensing and performing data aggregation are also carried out in such a way to reduce the number of transmitted messages to the access point. This protocol can be used for any periodic monitoring applications using WSN. The network simulator (NS-2), which provides support for simulation of wireless networks, is used to simulate the OEERP based wireless sensor network.
