Abstract :
The authors of [1] proposed the novel balancing technique of the sub module capacitor of Modular Multilevel Converter (MMC) which based on sorting of capacitor voltages, detection of current and the selection of the sub modules. In this paper the versatility of the balancing method has been checked by applying it to one of the applications i.e MMC -HVDC. The comprehensive simulations have been carried in MATLAB Simulink to prove the efficacy of the balancing method to the application. One of the control methods i.e. direct control strategy of the MMC-HVDC has been simulated.
