Abstract :
This paper presents the results of experimental research on generation of short γ-ray pulses. The experiments have been performed using the MIG facility. This facility is a high- voltage generator with a water-filled transfer capacitor, which is based on a line pulse transformer (240 kJ) [1]. The water-filled transfer capacitor is discharged compression transfer capacitor and into water transmission line through the output switch, and thus causes the current to flow through the POS. The use of a conical Al-Ta compound anode in the diode with a pinched electron flow has made it possible to decrease the γ-ray duration and to increase the average γ-ray energy by decreasing the Xray generation efficiency later in the voltage pulse. We have managed to obtain the following γ-ray parameters: an average γ-ray energy of 2 MeV, a FWHM of 6÷6.5 ns, a pulse risetime of 2÷2.5 ns, and a doze of 1.5·1012rad/s over an area of more than 15 cm2.
