Abstract :
Measurements of the Joule energy deposition into an exploding wire are presented. Energy deposition into the metal core is strongly dependent on current rate, voltage polarity, wire diameter and coatings, and the environment. The condition of the wire core after breakdown depends on atomization enthalpy of the metal. Results of energy deposition experiments for Al wire are compared with ALEGRA MHD simulations.
