Abstract :
The Vp× B acceleration scheme or surfatron has an advantage for protons and/or ions acceleration in case of the phase matching between the electromagnetic wave and these particles. A new proton accelerator utilizing the transverse electric field of the laser wakefield is proposed. In the proton acceleration employing the transverse laser wakefield, we have performed the simulation. The results show that the energy gain per one stage is not large enough but the acceleration gradient is several hundred times larger than the conventional proton acceleration scheme. The proton acceleration by the transverse wakefield is more effective in lower proton energy. It will be possible to make the compact proton accelerator with these principles.
