Abstract
We calculated a temperature rise of the target caused by an intense pulsed ion beam irradiation numerically. When a proton beam with 200 keV, 420 A/cm2, 60 nsec is irradiated to a pure titanium target, the temperature of surface region within 2.3 µm is increased above its melting point. The maximum cooling rate is reached to 1.3 × 109 K/sec. This value is sufficiently larger than the critical cooling rate for amorphous formation of pure titanium.
