Abstract :
A high-power vircator featuring multiple passage of electrons through the thin anode foil for generation of powerful X-ray pulses was developed and implemented as a pioneering effort. The vircator is based electron accelerator fed by POS. The results of 2D self-consistent calculations of electron beam dynamics in vircator alongside with the resulting spectra of the accompanying microwave radiation are presented. Also presented are the results of 1D self-consistent calculations of electron beam dynamics with consideration for scattering at the anode foil alongside with the spectra of bremsstrahlung X-ray radiation. Being presented are the results of the first experiments aimed at investigation of X-ray radiation of the vircator for thin and thick anode foil. In case of the thin foil the dose of X-ray radiation was 8 times higher than that of the thick anode with the average quanta energy decreased from 80 to 30 keV.
