Abstract :
X-pinch plasmas are known to be a point-like X-ray source with potential application for backlighting diagnostic. A very compact LC generator (40 kV, 200 kA) has been used for driving 25-μm Mo, 25-μm Cu and 18-μm W wire X-pinches with a current risetime of 200 ns. A single peak emission of X-rays is recorded with a little time jitter. Tbe X-ray source size is less than 15 μm in spectral region harder than 2.4 keV. Radiation with total yield of more than 80 mJ and duration as short as 1.5 ns can be achieved. First results of spectral measurements with Cu and Mo X-pinch are presented. CuXX and CuXXI lines are registered in the region of 850 - 1100 eV in the case of Cu wires as well as the lines of ions with charges of 32 and 33 (2.4-2.7 keV) for Mo wires.
