Abstract :
The paper presents the design and fabrication of a frequency up- and down-converter with subharmonic pump for wireless communication at 220GHz. The converter circuit is based on GaAs Schottky barrier diodes flip-chipped onto a suspended quartz microstrip line. The simulated performance of the circuit exhibits a good conversion loss over a wide frequency range. The preliminary measurement for the down converter application shows good conversion loss and noise performance, with minimum double side band (DSB) conversion loss of 6.5dB and noise temperature of 1310K.
