Abstract :
In recent years, the use of wireless mode of internet connection has become popular in Hong Kong. We envision that the use of mobile devices could facilitate the learning experience of students to study; therefore, in the present pilot study, some preliminary data of how university students, in particular, life science major students (LSMSs), make use of the mobile devices for their study, was collected. It was observed that an increasing number of LSMSs were using smart phones and the 3G network for internet. Nine out of ten LSMSs had at least one mobile laptop computer and almost all LSMSs were experienced in using wireless internet connection (wifi). The number of LSMSs showing positive attitudes towards the use of mobile devices for their studies of life science was also observed to rise. When compared with other students in the same university, LSMSs were shown to be more receptive towards the use of mobile devices for studies.
