Abstract :
In this article, a new D-STATCOM is presented which is optimally suited for a safe integration of Distributed Generation (DG) into existing networks. Different topologies for Voltage Source Converters for STATCOMs are briefly described. The pros and cons in dependence of the network voltage level and compensation power are highlighted. A reference project is presented in which the described D-STATCOM was installed in order to make a new windfarm fully compliant to the grid code of the local utility company. The work was done within the ADINE project, funded by the European Commission.
