  • Abstract
    A theoretical description of the magnetic erosion and erosion due to channel curvature is presented for a relativistic electron beam ill a plasma channel. These types of erosion occur when electrons in the beam head are swept away by an external transverse magnetic field or a centrifugal force respectively. A scaling law is derived for quantitative estimation of these types of erosion rates. A particle simulation study of the magnetic erosion is also carried out with three-dimensional particle-in-cell code. The simulation results are compared with the theoretical predictions. A range of parameters of beam and channel at which ti,e scaling law is proved by the simulation is determined. Physical effects are found which increase the erosion rate.
