Abstract
With the employment of a fuzzy sliding mode control (FSMC) approach, the chaotic responses of a laminated composite cantilever beam subjected to an external sinusoidal excitation are suppressed into periodic responses. The third-order shearing effect on the responses of the beam is considered in the model establishment. The FSMC approach has shown significant advantages on effectively suppressing the chaotic responses of the investigated system.
