Abstract :
Since video based applications have newly attracted, typical error control methods are not well suited. Therefore developments of new techniques which have the capability of dealing with transmission errors are essentially needed. In this paper, we present an efficient error correction algorithm which improves the quality of reconstructed video during transmission over error-prone channels. The proposed method is implemented by integrating H.264 codec with turbo coding which is a powerful forward error correction technique. The performance of the proposed algorithm is tested using a simulated Internet Protocol (IP) environment which drops packets by dropping the individual Network Abstraction Layer (NAL) units from the video stream. The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm provides high quality of experience compared to the reference algorithm.
