Abstract
To improve spatial performance in motion systems a modal control design is studied. Using more sensors and actuators than strictly needed to control the rigid body modes, resonances in the plant dynamics can effectively be dealt with. The approach is used (in experiment) to control the bandwidth-limiting torsion mode of a motion system by effectively using one extra actuator-sensor pair.
