Abstract
The science gateway provides an access to cyberinfrastructure. Through this gateway, users are able to conduct computer simulations to verify and understand existing or newly proposed theories. In class, the science gateway can be used for educational purposes. Educational activities are different from research activities. For instance, students run a sample simulation simultaneously for a limited time, during which, the science gateway suffers from performance degradation due to increased processing and queue waiting times for numerous jobs. If every user uses the same simulation model with identical parameters, then, individual running results are the same as long as a deterministic algorithm is used. To reduce the processing time and save computing resources, we propose the pseudo simulation scheme which provides users with existing results instead of running new jobs when the simulation model and parameters exactly match that of a previous simulation. In this paper, we define the metadata used to archive simulation data and we describe how the proposed scheme is incorporated into the existing science gateway functionality.
