Abstract :
This paper presents a methodology for examining the characteristic of liquid lubricants by considering the viscosity at the temperature of 26 °C using non-contact measurement. The lubricants namely SAE 15W-40, SAE 20W-50 and ISO VG 100 were selected for experiments in this study. The magnetic field method influenced by a permanent magnet was applied and Hall Effect was using as a sensor. In analysis, the reference iron scrap with dimension ranging from 1 μm to 100 μm was added in each lubricant. The time to stable point of iron scrap was accessed for each type of lubricant. The results of the experiments were from Hall Effect sensor which can generate the output voltage varied by displacing time to permanent magnet of each iron scrap weight which was used for analyzing the lubricant viscosity.
