Abstract :
The moisture content of terrain or forest, which is highly related to the permittivity, is a key parameter to understand global water cycle. This study is focused on retrieving permittivity from radar backscattering measurements. The basic concept of the proposal is to utilize Brewster´s angle effect of double-bounce backscattering. If the Brewster´s angle is known, it is possible to estimate the permittivity of medium directly. In order to demonstrate the Brewster´s angle effects on the backscattering of forested area, the authors have carried out a simple laboratory experiment and the results are shown in this paper.
