Abstract :
The interdecadal variability of the western Pacific Warm Pool (WPWP) and its impact on the climate change were analyzed using the observation and reanalysis data. The results indicated that the WPWP had interdecadal change in the end 1970s. The horizontal extension of WPWP expanded eastwards significantly after the end 1970s. The depth of WPWP also increased after the end 1970s but in spring. Deeper research indicated that after the end 1970s the interdecadal weakening of the surface wind in Equatorial Pacific Ocean made the WPWP expand eastward. This interdecadal variability of WPWP has influence on the western Pacific subtropical high. That is, the subtropical high intensity strengthened and its western ridge point was westward after the end 1970s.
