Abstract
This papers presents a first attempt to analyze and fuse human settlement extents extracted from optical and radar data. Due to the different possible definition of human settlements (artificial land covers, urban land use classes, built-up areas,...) the approaches that are discussed in these paper present different results on the same area. While comparison with ground truth is always feasible, a combination of extraction results from SAR and optical is acceptable only when the same underlying definition of human settlement is considered.
