Abstract
This paper proposes a novel edge router architecture for the 3-Level Integrated Hybrid Optical Network (3LIHON). The detailed implementations of the queue scheduling techniques, assembly algorithm, and the contention resolution mechanism are presented. We also build a network simulator to evaluate the performance of the architecture with different realistic input traffic patterns. Results show that this architecture can provide desirable Quality of Service (QoS) and utilize the resources efficiently. In addition, we give clear guidelines for setting the employed parameters, like the maximum burst size and the load allocation for each service class.
