Abstract
Communication is one of the most important steps in constructing a robotic system. Such a system has been built based on NI LabVIEW and compactRIO. In this paper, several methods of communication between host computer and compactRIO were introduced. By comparison in the experiment, we found that each method has their unique benefits and drawbacks. The method of shared variables is the most convenient; the method of TCP/IP is the most reliable; the method of UDP has the highest performance. When a system is set up, the most suitable method of them should be selected according to the user´s requirement.
