Abstract
This paper is devoted to some preparations for ontology-based semantic learning object metadata, including discovering the mappings between metadata elements and ontologies, and the development of relevant ontologies, i.e. Context Ontology and Content Ontology. The result shows that most of the standard metadata elements are compliant with ontology primitives, and it is feasible to enhance the semantic expressive capability and machine understandability of current learning object metadata through ontological metadata vocabularies.
